In that case fingers crossed its not the timing chain... on the R53 the fix is about £60 but on the R56 its about £600 from what Ive read - mine was done under warranty...

There is enough evidence on the internet of this problem that you should be able to shout and scream that it's a known issue - MINI customer service would be the way to go if it looks like it's going to be expensive.
How's your oil level? If it's a bit low you can get similar symptoms if it's a bit chilly

I have had the cold start problem on our R56. It only happened when the engine was cold and sounded like a tractor for a few momenets. I would suggest asking for goodwill from Mini depending on the cause, it helped with our power steering pump and sunroof.
Was pricey to fix but did get our aftermarket warranty to pay, after a fight.. |
