Question Tyre question

Enlightend me please, i dont really know much but i want to know more about the black round rubber stuff....

i have 195/55/16 tyres, now im coming up to needing new tyres and read multiple reviews from different place etc.... but what difference would i find if i got, say 205/45/16 or even a 215/45/16 ..... i dont want a thick looking tyre (55) but i guess thats just my preference on looks i guess.

But feel wise and handling and general ride what difference would i find if i got a 205/45 tyre, and what would the pros and cons be of getting a bigger tyre. apart from increase in cost!

Thanks in advance guys

Generally speaking the lower the aspect ratio the harder the ride as the tyre sidewall decreases in height, you may also find that the wheel rims might not be wide enough to put wider tyres on and you may also alter your gearing and speedometer accuracy by fitting lower profile tyres.

When changing tyre and wheel sizes you should always look to keep the overall tyre diameter the same so as not to give you the issues with gearing or speedometer accuracy.

As an example my R50 Mini One Seven came with 175/65R15 tyres I changed the wheels from 15" to 18" and fitted 215/35R18 tyres the overall tyre diameter was 1mm less with the larger wheel/tyre combination so no issues with gearing or the speedometer

Run your choices through here Tyre Size Calculator - Changing Tyres - Etyres

Good luck

PS these wheels and tyres are still for sale http://www.miniclubuk.com/sale/3186-...html#post48446

I'm no tyre expert, but I double you would be able to change from the 195 part of your tyre at this is the width of rim and you wouldn't want tyres too wide or too thin.

Again the 16 couldn't be changed without a new rim as they wouldn't fit.

You might be able to change the 55 part of your tyre as it's the side wall height. I suspect that a smaller sidewall would increase the firmness of the ride as there is less rubber to flex, however, I couldn't comment on handling (or if this would effect grip).

I'm sure the thing everyone would agree with would be avoid run on flat tyres.
