Default Diesels and Air Filters ......

So i purchased and fitted an Air filter today, typical man i just went ahead and fitted it, some idiot had put instructions in the box!! Im male i know already how to do it!!

sooo anyway...

i dont really notice a difference..... Is there much difference?? Not sure if i fitted it correctly, kinda did everything the instructions said.

i did notice the turbo seemed really hot, silly question but i've never checked the turbo after a drive, does it usually get hot?

Looks impressive, however, I would of tried to locate it at the front of the engine bay so that it can suck in nice cold air - engines love that. Where it is at the moment It will probably just pick up heat from the engine bay and the manifold.

That's why there is that other black pipe that you have running from a cold air intake from the bottom right of the picture up to the back of the engine to feed in chilli air. Could you re-route it towards from bottom left and remove some of the intake hose to give it a chance of some more cold air?

Today is probably not the best day to notice a difference as it's very warm.

The turbo will get extremely hot, and should be avoided, hence MINIs don't touch symbol on the metal cover. There were some early R56 Cooper S MINIs that have deformed bonnet scoops from the heat of the turbo - thankfully now resolved.

I admire your have a go attitude

Thank you

I know what you mean, the black pipe that runs from the stock scoop bends down and ive fashioned it in a S-shape which points up to the air filter. Ideally i wanted it to bend right, but the plastic thing got in the way, so i will hunt around homebase or focus or even email KandN for another right angled rubber tubing so it can bend right and down.... or another thought i could leave it there and find similar black tubing and maybe have it coming from the bottom underneath the car up to the intake (although surely if it rains water, although not a great amount would come up the pipe?) .... Although it leaves a huge space at the back of the engine bay if i have it bent down towards the front.... i'll figure something out!

Turbochargers are driven by exhaust gases which is why they get very hot, it is not unknown for turbochargers on race vehicles to glow cherry red as they get so hot, thats why its not a good idea to touch them; its also why you should ideally let a turbocharged engine tickover for a couple of minutes before turning it off as it allows it to cool down a little.
