Default damaged bonnet!!-help/advice please!!

Hi,

After a bit of persuasion from me hubbie removed his aged and weathered silver bonnet stripes. unfortunately one of them has left a ridge of what looks like lacquer and it looks awful!!

Any ideas on how to get rid of it without damaging the paintwork??!!

Thanks

Is it just some of the adhesive it's left behind? You could try warming it with a hair dryer to soften it a little bit, alternatively I have got some stuff from BMW for fitting the spoiler. It's a liquid which removes sticky stuff! Sorry I can't be more technical than that!

I have found a tech sheet for the stuff I have, it's called Dow Betaclean 3350.

http://www.filzring.de/FILZRING-DSL/...clean3350e.pdf

I got it as part of the Betalink kit (paint cleaner and bonding glue) through the dealership. I am sure the Betaclean stuff is available on it's own.

Thanks for the advice! I will try to get some photos of it.
I dont think its the adhesive but will try to warming it with a hairdrier just in case
If all else fails I will try that Betaclean stuff- Will ask my friendly dealership for some and let you know how I get on.
Anyone tried Autoglym Super Resin polish?

Thanks again!

Right, moving from best case to worst case scenario:

Stripe adhesive - Use a strong solvent cleaner. Some have been suggested already, i would use Autosmart Tardis. Something a little more commercial would be Autoglym Intensive Tar remover. Soft cloth and working a small area at a time.

Stripe Adhesive + Build up of road grime - As above but finish with a mild clay. If the mild clay does not remove then progress to aggressive clay. Be gentle and finish off with your AG SRP.

Smart repair finishing on bonnet stripe - Bad news. Cheapest solution would be to replace the stripe. Next solution would be to get someone to wetsand flat the laquer line and machine. My suggested solution would be to get the bonnet resprayed and take advantage to get the stone chips removed.

I doubt very much that SRP on its own would make any difference if the mark is severe. Give it a go anyway and see how you get on.
