Default Tuning options for the R56 S

As the title suggests: what can you do to the R56 for more power?

What are the options that dealers cant moan about? Nik is probably the guy to ask here but will they kick up a fuss about coils or uprated engine components ??

Im contemplating making a change !! but am a little concerned that I would regret it - not saying the 56 isnt a good car but that I jsut dont think it will be quite the same as a tuned R53 as I would be getting a boggo standard version....

Anyone see any good deals on a 56 let me know

All input welcome

Cheers
Keano

You're welcome to take a spin in mine the next time we meet up - as the signature says 227Bhp, with two mods an exhaust and engine tune.

I think that the tuning options are only a bit more limited as this engine has only been in the MINI for about 3 years compared to the R53 with about 9 years of tuners tweaking.

Simple mods for a good power gain there !! 175 to 227 from a map and zoorst its pretty good

Could use a JCW zoorst as its OEM and they proabably wouldnt notice a tune ??

Mine hasn't been in for a service yet, but the place that I got it done are so confident that it won't be seen that they will redo it if they wipe it for free.

However, I do have a bit of a power dip at around 6,000 rpm - but no one really drives a car that high up the rev range, and with all the power gain you'd be mad to go that high up in any gear. Apparently a better air filter would help with this, otherwise it's bigger injectors (JCW?) but they have to be dealer programmed and would likely wipe the ECU remap.

As with ALL non MINI approved mods on a car with warranty, it's a risk that if something does go wrong a dealer 'may' say it was the fault of a modification.

lol... you sure ?? lol

Perhaps with the different power delivery i would drive the car differently... although in a straight up drag would you not need those revs? or would you shift earlier and ride on the torque ??
