In the end I purchased a set from the link that Ian B put up - fitted them and they work a treat You're looking about £12 per side if you want the M3 ones I think.

I have fitted the 3 series ones to my R53 and my friend has them on his R56. on the R56 they also dim in and out as per the normal function when you unlock / lock the car.
