Default Buying my First Mini

Hello my name is Sam.

I am looking to buy my first Mini Convertible. I have looked at a few second hand Minis and test drove a Cooper S and a Cooper, both very nice. I have joined this club to help me with advice with my choice. I have seen a Mini One Convertible in red that is a 56 reg with only around 10,000 miles. The questions I would like to ask is there any problems that I should be aware of and look for? and the last question is with red is there any problems with fading.

Sorry for all the questions but any advice would be most welcome.

Kind regards

Sam

Hello Sam, firstly welcome to the club, it's good to have you aboard.

As far as I'm aware there have never been any paint fading issues with any of the MINIs. I Used to also have a 56 plate convertible, and things to look for are...
  • Check the interior of the convertible hood for water marks and stains.
  • Check the carpets in the passenger and drivers footwell, and also in the boot space for damp/wet - this would let you know if there was a hood problem.
  • Take the car somewhere with the hood up - there can be squeaks and rattles that need dealing with.

Besides that, good luck in the search, and wait anyone else's comments...

Hi Sam, I can't comment personally on the cabrio's as I have only ever had hard tops. Considering Chili Red has been around for 10 years now, I have not seen a single one in this colour with any paint fade. If you look after it then it should be fine.

Good luck with your search, let us know how you get on!

Thanks for the advice on checking the hood for water leaks and squeaks and rattles. I have just noticed another one on the internet that I will be having a look at tomorrow, this is a 09 Cooper Convertible, again in red, and looks great!

I will let you know how I get on.

Sam

If you can get one of the newer shape MINI soft tops you will find the fuel economy is much better, especially with the S.

Also don't forget to use the 2011 model refresh which goes on sale in September as a bargaining tool to get the price down further.

Keep us updated with your progress...

Welcome Sam happy hunting
Unfortunatly I don't really have to much advise other than when u find one keep asking for more as the car trade is ruined at the mo so u will be able to get a wicked deal even if it sounds good still say u have to think about it cause you will get offered something else
