Default Cooper D Convertible at Goodwood

Hi went to The Moving Motorshow Show at festival of speed today and they had the new convertible diesel on Mini stand, the new alloys look the business and with climate control the rotational control knobs for temp and fan speed have been replaced with switches, the new colour leather looks like the interior of a 3 series. Also spoke to a BMW rep who confirmed that the jcw will be getting an updated aerokit as lights in rear bumper are different but didn't let on what changes would be, here are a couple pics this colour is definately available on hardtop too. they're is also going to be a green leather interior apparently I'm really tempted to chop mine in for a cooper d convertible the same as this but with black xenons

So would that also include the Alfa Spider, Saab 9-3, Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, diesel convertibles?

Each to their own, and nothing wrong with a bit of penny pinching driving if you do the miles to justify the added initial extra cost

Certainly does...

I personally just don't get it, why drive around with the roof down to the sound of a tractor - no matter how refined the engine, a petrol always sounds better.
It's the same as a diesel Cooper S, they'll be doing an M3 diesel next...

Diesel Cooper S will be released eventually and if an M3 diesel came out I'd have one lol, high performance diesels are becoming popular and with price of fuel its not surprising. If you look at certain french manufacturers there are some who's petrol engines sound rougher than their diesels. Personally I dont mind the diesel clatter I used to get worse from mine before they sorted the cold start clatter, plus its all about the torque for me but its down to personal choice. The convertible will have BMW engine, if you look at BMW 6 cylinder and VAG V6 diesels they don't sound like a tractor plus they go like stink 330d BMW or 3.0 v6 Audi anyone lol

Don't forget that diesels were 1, 2 & 3 at Le Mans (Audi not Peugeot as worryingly the Peugeot's blew up!). Also diesels have plenty of torque!

so does a V8 and a V12. You can't beat either of them spinning up at 6500/7000 rpm.

Just to give an idea on diesel torque 3series 3.0 335d gives 428lb ft @ 1750-2250rpm versus 4.0 V8 M3 giving 295lb ft @ 3900rpm plus diesel does combined 42.2mpg as opposed to 25.2mpg for M3 and then there is car tax diesel is £250 first year then £180, M3 is £950 first year then £435. So think a diesel M3 could eventually happen lol
