Default DNA Detailing - Black Cooper S Full Correction

Hi all,

We had been approached by Kryi (via MCUK) to get a full correction service performed on his car. Our brief was simple: To get the car in the best condition achievable during the day scheduled.

Kryi arrived just after 8am with a lovely Cooper S in Black II.

We began by letting the brakes cool sufficiently before exposing them to water. This gave us time to discuss the objectives of the detail and run through the process.
Once the brakes had cooled the wheels were cleaned with Bilberry non acidic wheel cleaner, being worked in with a selection of brushes.

Whilst Paul sorted the wheels, i cracked on with APC'ing the shuts, badges, vents and beltline. When complete the car was foamed with APC and left to dwell for roughly 10 minutes.

The car was then rinsed and subjected to our standard two bucket wash method. After washing the car was clayed using Sonus Green Clay (mild) to remove very few bonded contaminates (no pics). When finished the car was rinsed again and dried using the heated car dryer.

When dry we set about masking off all of the trim and parts that could be affected by machining, slightly easier on this particular car as all of the arches are colour coded. Paint depth readings were taken showing no problematic areas and good solid original paint.

After trying a few combinations we settled on using a cutting pad and Menzerna Power Gloss (very abrasive) to get the desired level of correction. The plan was for me to do the compounding, then Paul follow me round with a finishing polish to refine the finish and remove the marring my machining caused.

NB: The wheel arch trim has not been corrected in any of these photos, and they were taken before any wax or QD wipedown.

Half way through the detail i decided that i'd had enough of the massive amounts of dust being generated by the compounding and switched to a slightly different method. Using Menzera 3.02 on a firm polishing pad (2 hits per panel) gave us a clean finish without the need to refine (the polish was worked until the abrasive particles had broken down completely, with the machine speed slowed to refine the finish).

Once all of the surfaces had been machined we used Meguiars #80 Speed Glaze (via DA polisher) to enhance the finish and nip out any light marring. This was then topped with a nice coat of Dodo Juice Purple Haze, as Kryi wanted us to achieve a nice deep wetlook finish.
The trim was finished with AG Vinyl and Rubber Care, glass cleaned with Carlack Glass Cleaner, Wheels polished and coated with Colinite 915, Tyres treated with AS Highstyle, exhaust poslished with Autosol and #00 grade wirewool and as a final treat to the paint work i sprayed Zaino Z8 to add extra bling.

Here are the afters! Enjoy:
