Default Help! how do I clean my hood?

Hi everyone

As you know I have now got my lovely convertible, but I am not sure how or what I should use on the fabric hood. I don't know if I just wash it with car shampoo when I wash the car or would that damage it? Or do I just wash it with warm water? then wash the rest of the car with car shampoo.
I have seen a convertible hood spray cleaner but do you use this every time you wash the car or just know and again?

Sorry for all the questions but I am a little scared to put the wrong thing on it.

Sam

Hi Sam,

I used to own an MGF before the MINI so...
  • Don't wash the hood everytime you wash the car,
  • If it is soiled (bird poo, mud etc), either use a lose brush and wipe it off or gently wipe away with a sponge,
  • When you do wash it, just use a sponge but don't wash all the suds into the fabric too much as you'll otherwise be spending ages getting the suds out - if you don't it will dry patchy,
  • I used to use AutoGlym Fabric hood cleaner and protector, that worked very well. The cleaner was probably used 2-3 times a year and then the protector was applied more regularly, especially through the Autumn/Winter months.
  • Best bit of advice is, don't put the hood down whilst it's still wet.

That oughta do it.

Thanks for the advice. I have been wanting to give her a clean but have put it off until now. I will pick some AutoGlym up over the weekend.
Thanks again.

I used to use the AutoGlym product on mine every few months, worked a treat

A very very diluted shampoo now and again won't hurt, along with a gentle vacuum when dry with a clean dusting brush, and also one of those lint rollers from the dry cleaners is useful if you get a lot of grass seeds or bits from trees on it.
