Cheers guys

Be prepared for strange looks etc. from neighbours & your other half........I could sense from the curtain twitching they were saying 'look at the looney over there, now he's taking the wheels off to clean the back of them'. My mrs is used to me now, but she still does a few of these every now & again.

You should have seen the looks I got when I was using a hair dryer to heat the 3M tape on my BBR scoop before fitting... Have to say though I spend more time washing my Mini than I did with any of my previous cars...

Can anyone recommend me a good drying towel or shammy?

I was using a Meguiars Water Magnet Microfiber Drying Towel but since I washed it (As it says on the packet) its now useless!

I have a two pronged approach to drying... I use the Megs water magnet waffle towel followed by the microfibre drying towel as it mops the last drops that the water magnet doesn't pick up.

Whatever you go for it ought to be soft...

LOL! I did learn a few useful bits and bobs doing that article, there are also some quite useful tips on some of the detailing forums and sites...

I'm using the remains of a AutoGlym multi pack for waxing and polishing, but wash with Meguiars at the moment.

Apparently using wax and polish products on alloy wheels can help to keep them cleaner longer, and make washing off the brake dust a breeze.

If you want to buy a specialist drying towel then fetch yourself a Sonus Der Wunder.

Me? I just use a pack of cheap £3 for 6 microfibres from Wilco!

I use ProShine on wheels and bodywork. Has Carnuba wax in it and it works a treat. Wheels come up like new and no swirls on the paintwork at all. Is great stuff.
