Unhappy MOT Failure on emissions

Hello to everyone. can anyone help me on this pre-Mot which failed on the emission level. the exhaust origionaly was a single side cooper one, but it was changed to a twin exhaust with cat because of the bumper, now i have only been doing short journeys the garage reckons it needs a good blast up the motorway? its only been on for 2weeks now. So does this story seem true thanks from Pete.

I've had an issue like that before with my old Sierra... (It had been standing for quite a while a the emissions were higher than they should have been) A good thrashing up the A12 in 2nd and 3rd helped it a lot... Seems a bit odd though for a car that isn't that old... Did they say how much it had failed by? Has the cat failed, as it should handle the emissions comfortably?

I've got a mate with a 2.2 Litre Vectra, he only does short journeys and failed on emissions, he was told to take it up the A14 and give it some stick and get it up to running temp. He took it back and it passed on emissions without any adjustment. I think that the Cat has to get hot before it starts doing it's job!
