Default How do you remove the rear spoiler?

I need some help on removing the rear aero spoiler that I've currently got fitted to my JCW, what's the best way of doing this without completely ruining my bodywork/paintwork?
Is it just bolted on from the underside of the boot (there's some rubber gromits in the corners so I guess they are covering the screws/bolts for the spoiler) or is it bonded on to the boot?

Is it something I could do myself or is it best to go to a Mini bodyshop to get it done?

Cheers guys & girls

Its held on with bolts and double sided tape/glue... Bit of an awkward one to remove I believe so I would probably get a body shop to do it - at least that way if they make a hash of it you can get them to sort it out!!

You getting a new spoiler lex? FYI - my roof was in a bad condition under the spoiler, with dents and scratches so if you take the spoiler off to replace it beware that you may need/want to get your roof sorted before replacing...

Apply some heat too to loosen the sticky pads they use. It'll either go really well or really badly I'm afraid!

Not had it done yet, however I was lucky enough to win the Cooper S Spoiler kindly donated by RJM in the MCUK Charity Raffle at Duxford. Been doing a lot of research on this subject, apparently early models of Cooper/One fitted with the standard spoiler were fixed at 3 points, 1 at each end and 1 in the middle by bolts as well as being stuck. Later models appear to have only 2 bolts (I at each end) as well as being stuck. The best trick to release the glue is a heat gun!

I'm getting Robin at RJM to fit mine he reckons if all goes well it will be an hours labour to remove the original spoiler and fit the Cooper S one, worse case a hour and a half, so £30-£45. He also reckons if you are carefull you can normally machine polish the exposed area and it will come up, however as in Keano's case it may require painting which will take longer and of course be a bit more expensive. Just in case I'm planning to leave mine there on a Friday with a view to pick it up Saturday morning unless all goes well on the Friday.

Plenty of people on here have had work done by Robin and there is nothing put praise for him, just ask Nik!

Pictures will follow!

Good info there mate

My problems were that the spoiler was bolted down too tight so with the added 'weight' of air rushing over it at speed the spoiler caused massive dents to form round the bolt holes in the roof. These would have needed a dent guy to to get them out before fixing the spoiler...

Robin is a top guy Best to call him as he doesnt get on here very often... (If you do call let him know Ive sent him a PM!! )

Cheers for all the advice guys, really appreciate it...... maybe it's something I wont be attempting myself then.
John thanks for the helpful info there buddy Where are RJM based? Might have to give them a call to sort something out.... not sure if I trust some of the bodyshops round where I live, they're ok for abit of spraying, etc but not sure about this type of work (unless someone around Basildon/Wickford area can point me in the right direction)

Let's just say I'm working on something at the moment & I haven't seen it on any of mini's so far but I'm sure there are some out there.

That's enough info at this stage but don't worry you'll all be the first to see it when it's sorted out

Robin's work is first class, he's based in Bury St Edmunds. Well worth it if that's not too far from you.
