Default Cleaning products...

I am hoping for a bit of advice and I know there are a few detailing enthusiasts who will probably be able to answer this one for me. I am looking to replenish some of my cleaning gear as I am coming to the end of some of my products.

This is my shopping list at the moment:
Quik detailer
Polish
Drying cloth.

QD - I have been using up Meguiars QD (Mist and Wipe) and their NXT (Speed Detailer) and Turtle Wax Ice Spray Detailer. Out of the 3 the first was by far the best from my experience. I get through it pretty quickly so was thinking of buying the Meguiars Last Touch Detailer 3.78L.

Polish - I have been using Auto Glym Super Resin Polish. I found that ok, but it is quite dusty. My paintwork isn't great, I've a fair few swirl marks and light stratches. I am wondering if there would be a more suitable product? Something perhaps suited to darker paint finishes (my MINI is Black Eye Purple).

Drying cloth - I am still looking for the right combo! Been using a synthetic leather which is okay but drying takes a long time and before I get around the car it's dried and water marked. The I usually follow with Meguiars Water Magnet which I find a bit useless or alternatively use a microfibre cloth. What works best and requires little effort?

Can anyone recommend a decent detailing supplier on the net where I can get these goodies from? Who are the cheapest and most reliable?

Thanks in advance for your help guys!

www.ultimatefinish.co.uk

the best drying towell available on the market is the supernatural dodo juice drying towel, have two, they are amazing. Water Magnet is crap and leathers, well they aint good for the paintwork anyway.

25 quid

quick detailer yeh the meguiars is a good choice, failing that the zymol z8 show detailer or dodo juice red mist are good products

Polish, cant help you as i dont think people need to polish cars, well i know they dont, as much as they do, waxing is more of the product that should be used no more then a later or two a week. Polosih not requent at all

SRP has fillers so people like as it can hide swirls, but most waxes do that and they have no abrasives like polish does. Maybe you should look for a liquid wax first like meguars gold class, poorboys black hole show glaze is really good on black for sure nik, collonite is another leading paste wax, and of course dodo juice purple haze/blue velvet hard and soft black waxes are wicked i have used them, but i use supernatural now so...

I used to the theultimatefinish, but have found clean your car to be much cheaper on some products.

It's DoDo all the way for me - you never know Emily, you might win the sample pots on Saturday

clean your car all the way and he gives you spend and save points which you use against your next purchase ,megs last touch is good to use while wiping down the car and helps alot ,towel i would go for der wunder or the one that is on special on the home page ,again polishing should be done as and when necessary ,twice a year like claying ,if you polishing by hand it can be very hard to break the abrasives down into finer particles which help to refine the finish ,or use a finishing polish ,as for wax dodo do a great selection for every paint finish ,i have collinite ,xxx hardcore from chemical guys, dodo and some others which i cant remember ,everyone has a favourite product they like to use but what works for one may not work for another,if you want some advice the best person is Andy H who has a good knowledge of alot of products and has been hands on with alot aswell so he will be able to guide you to a great range of product combos for the colour of your car,not flogging the services but if you want a near fault free finish me and andy would be very happy to take on the task and save you a aching arm, dont know if we showed you lot the clubman detail but if we didnt ill get andy to post them,WHAT A JOB

It totally depends on what you want the products to achieve.

QD:

If you use QD as a drying aid then i would recommend a bulk item such as Megs Last Touch. Infact its a good alround detailing spray which works out fairly cheap once diluted (1:1).

If you use QD to top up protection and add to the finish then i would recommend Zanio Z8 or Dodo Juice Red Mist. Both will add a small layer of protection amd give you a bit of extra bling to your paint.

Polish:

SRP is as good as any on the market. Yes its dusty by hand but its a great AIO product with heavy masking abilities.
Another product to looik out for would be Clearkote Red Moose Machine Glaze topped with any wax or sealant of your choosing. RMG has good filling abilities however offers no protection on its own.

Ideally you'd be better off with a full machine polish to remove all of the marks, then top with LSP of your choosing.

Drying Towel:

Out of the ones i have i always go for the Sonus Der Wonder towels. Excellent drying ability and very soft.

Again though this is directly affected by the LSP on the car. In an ideal world you'd have a great LSP base, use RO water to rinse, a leaf blower to shift the mass of water then dab dry with a MF towel.

At the end of the day its all down to how much money you want to shell out.

HTH

Andy

Cheers for the input guys, I was wondering when Andy would offer his expertise! The Messaih has indeed spoken. Well following the help you guys have given me I placed an order on cleanyourcar.co.uk last night. I have ordered the Sonus Der Wunder drying towel and the Meg's Last Touch with the bottle and sprayer. I still have enough polish left to do the car once more so I am going to save money for the moment and hold off as cleanyourcar.co.uk were out of stock of the black hole glaze.

Cheers Paul and Andy for the offer of giving my car a detail. I'd love to but unfortunately just don't have the spare cash at the moment for such luxaries. Perhaps after I get married next year!

One of my bike suppliers had a good offer on, 1 Litre of Autoglym Super Resin Polish and 1 Litre of Autoglym Body Shampoo Conditioner for £12.99.

That's finished now, but they are cheap, take a look: -
