Default Power Steering Pump...

Morning all,

I got into my Mini this morning to go for a drive then when I went to swtich off, the car still kept making a humming/wurring sound from the outside & the sound of a motor drown from the inside....I think my Power steering pump has gone? I have disconnected the battery & just hoping that it will be ok when I connect it again?

Does anyone else have any ideas? Was thinking of taking it to Coopers but as it's Christmas Eve I don't think they will be able to do anything?

Hi Lisa

My One did exactly the same! I think there's two possible problems - a bit of a wiring loom or the pump being at fault. Unfortunately the pump was at fault on mine and got landed with a £600 repair bill from Coopers!

Good luck!

I hope you manage to get it sorted and it's nothing Lisa. Not sure of the problem myself, is the steering effected?

Steering works fine but the pump doesn't switch off when the car is off!

Thanks for the advice about the car.

After a lot of Reading it seems like the pump is on the way out. Going to have to find someone to fix it asap, I have read some horror stories!

Might have to give Mini Matt a call. Cars now booked in with the stealers to make sure its the pump that has failed and also to check the wiring.

Have to wait and see
