Default Fuel usage

Im a bit concerned that theres something wrong with my 2003 cooper.

At the mo im only getting around 250 miles to a tankfull of normal unleaded. Now im not thrashing the car at all and was wondering if this was about right or wether there is something wrong with the car??

Well i get around 300 miles in my cooper S, so i would say that you are using quite a lot of fuel. Have you checked for leaks? Are you filling the tank right up by checking the litres put in at the pump? If so, i would recommend that you take it to a garage to get it checked.

Are you only driving for short periods of time? If so fuel economy won't be that good... My modded S averages 240 to the tank so yours does seem a bit odd...

If you're running more with the rear-demister, lights, wipers etc on as the cold/dark sets in, that would affect fuel-consumption, but not that much I would have thought.

Calculate consumption per gallon, by filling up to the brim before and after from the same pump.

Well as i work nights i do most of my driving at night with the lights etc on. I do a few short jorneys (10-12miles) and then a few longer ones (70-80miles) but it just seems strange that its using so much fuel

I was getting approx 330 out of my Cooper and that was a conbination of short with a few longer journeys. So what you are saying does sound low... You could try Redex, I think that cleans the fuel injectors if you add it when filling up. Also check your tyre pressures, if these are low this can effect MPG.

That's much better! I think when the fuel light comes on you still have about 50 miles range left to the tank so that's much more reasonable.

about 240 - 280 in my s but i guess i not consistent in thrashing and non thrashing so not that bad for that and depends motorway driving, easy, country roads and that between work and home - different story

300 for me is a drive on constant motorway lol
