Default Front sidelights flashing

Hey,

My front sidelights flash when I turn the ignition on. Is this common or could it mean there's a short circuit. They flash a few times and then stop.

Also, I've also noticed that my rear number plate lights flash constantly when the car is unlocked.

Both of them act as normal when I turn my lights on though

Any ideas?

The number plate lights definitely are and I think the side lights could be. They are standard like

I think that you'll need to talk to Nik on here, it's not uncommon for LED's to flash, you'll need to be aware that LED Side lights are technically illegal and an MOT Failure as they are not "E" Marked.

They do look much better though IMHO.

Thanks. I'll message him now. They're genuine BMW factory fitted so legality shouldn't be an issue

LED side lights are legal, as long as they are 'E' marked. LED headlights are illegal.

I've LED number plate lights, they flash but cause any issue.

I didn't think the number plate lights would be too much of an issue. Just wondered if it was common. It's the sidelights that confuse me more. I didn't know if it could mean that there's a short somewhere

I'll reply here Scooper91 - flashing is completely normal with LED bulbs, and even if the car is switched off. It's caused by the CANBUS signalling, and when the car is off they sometimes light due to residual power held in the circuits. Nowt to worry about, but can be resolved by using CANBUS compatible LED's which are now available and are basically an LED plus a small resistor.

Brilliant! Good to know it's nothing to worry about with the LEDs. Now I've got to be honest, I don't know if the sidelights are LEDs or not! And my car isn't here for me to check now. Any ideas if they're not LEDs? Sorry for being so vague
