Default exhaust rear box

The outer skin of the underside of the exhaust on my 2003 Cooper has rusted away. Is it a part that can be replaced or covered over or doe I need a new box? Doesn't blow at all, just looks awful...

The one on my R50 did this too, followed by the hangers rusting away also I replaced it with a Milltek stainless cat-back exhaust.

Just had a look on ebay and new boxes are going for around 75 -80 quid. Don't know what quality would be like though?
