Default Good first mods

I've just bought an 05 MCS in hyper blue,it already has an LSD and JCW suspension so it feels awesome to drive but i would like a bit more poke, maybe a cat back exhaust etc, also is there any particular problems with MCS to look out for ?thanks

First mods, I'd say a reduced supercharger pulley, and an intercooler! KMT pulleys seem to come recommended, and either a GRS or MINI JCW GP intercooler.

Then again I'm hardly the authority on the supercharged MINI so I'll let the others chime in and correct me!

Best bang for buck would be a reduced pulley... You'll get upwards of an extra 20 horses with one of those... As above a GRS or GP Intercooler will keep temps down... A catback won't give you much, maybe 1 - 2 bhp... An uprated Manifold will give you extra though... Janspeed's work very well... You'll be looking at around 8-10bhp with one of those...

Problems with the MCS... Steering column is something that can get very clunky/clicky and may need a change... Also keep an eye on the oil filled engine mount as these are prone to leak... (facing the engine, it's the one on the left)

One huge problem though is that when you start modifying it, you won't be able to stop and your wallet will twitch in anticipation every month...

I have to agree with Sef and if you are after more horses as your first mods then defo go for a 15% or 17% reduced pulley and an uprated GRS or Mini GP intercooler. You would need the uprated intercooler due to the fact that the supercharger would be spinning up quicker & produce more heat.

A Janspeed or Miltek manifold will give a nice increase too (my miltek gave me an extra 9bhp) and will also make the MCS sound alot more throaty.

After this then you would be looking at getting a new cam such as the one made by Newman which would give you alot more horses too.... Sef's Mini is producing excellent figures with his power mods

Pulley is best bang for buck and the increase is hard to replicate once done as other mods wont give as much power and will cost more !!

Nice list of mods to work through:
1. Pulley, belt and plugs
2. Intercooler
3. Manifold
4. Camshaft - newman is what ive got
5. Mynes tune.

That should see you to around 240bhp IMO...

Ive got a black 16% pulley for sale if your interested

Intercooler is a good idea and good for peace of mind IMO - first mod I did

Things to watch out for have been mentioned above really but suspension bushes, steering column / power steering issues and coolant header tank splitting are the main things that I can remember...
