Default loose back box

hi there just a quick one really, just wondered if anyone has had a problem with brackets becoming loose on cooper s back box's??if so how did they go about fixing it?. i took my car to mini today to ask they wanted something like £130 for one f'in bracket then £30 to fit it , then the geeza said sometimes they have to drill out the old bolts which would cost an extra £50. might just let it drop off!!!!any ideas let me know cheers.

Here is a pic of my old S' exhaust...

Other than the bracket across the middle, there is no other bracket part of the exhaust system itself because it's held up to the car by two circular thin gauge steel clamps - you can see the recess for them in the middle of each box. These are then held in place by two rubber mounts hooked onto mounts welded onto the underside of the boot.

These clamps would be an off the shelf spares item from MINI. Unless the hangar itself is broken on the underside of the car I can't see what else it could be. If it is the hangear on the underside, then just take it to a half-decent garage for them to weld.

so i took it to a garage today and as always the problem is worse than expected!!turns out the actual mounts that are part of the car it self have broken off. so one place has quoted about £200 to weld them back because as he put it "the arse ache of dropping the exhaust"what ever happened to people just doing a good deed on the cheap!!!so to be honest i have lost all patience with it and probably going to let it hang forever!!

Thats rubbish charging that - shop around, it may be worth just taking it to a local privateer, the materials and time for welding that are next to nothing and the exhaust isn't that hard to remove.

What about a trip to our sponsor Mod'n'Mini, they may be of help?!?!?!
