Default R53 Cooper S Pulleys!?

Hello,

Just wondering if anyone had any Non-Standard or JCW pulleys on there car? Do they do anything?
Also how much realisticly did they cost (insurance any extra?)
Do they wreck the engine?

as i'm thinking of getting one,

Cheers,

Chris

hey chris ,Sef and Emily have reduced pulleys ,i dont think they damaged the engine but they do put a bit more strain on the charger as it spins faster, the mini engine is a very strong little lump ,speak to paul at 1320 autos he's the man to answer all your questions

Pulleys spin the 'charger faster creating more boost and hence more power/torque, so they do have nice effect

I have a JCW car so have the JCW 12% pulley but there are a range available, 15%, 16%, 17% 19% which all sping the charger faster but as it gets faster there is an increase in temperature produced so depending upon how far you go you may need a better Intercooler to help with intake temps

They dont wreck the engine but they do put more strain on it and they take the 'charger closer to its tolerance levels, as Paul has said the engine itself is pretty tough though...

You will need to tell your insurance company and in general they will add to the cost but I couldnt tell you how much - sure emily, sef etc can help out there...

As Paul says its probably best to talk to Paul or Thomas at 1320 and they will give you all the info you need - i.e. which pulley is best for your driving style, if you will need an improved IC, if you will need new plugs etc etc...

In short - go for it!!!

Do it! The best value power mod you can do for the MCS. As the guys have said, I have got a 17% Alta V2 pulley. My BHP increased from 202-217 so gained 15 bhp. I would throughly recommend going to 1320 Autos to have this done, for £349 inc fitting and VAT you will get a 15% or 17% pulley, new belt, NGK spark plugs, health check, dyno and compression and leakdown tests. More info here.

To be on the safe side I would suggest not to go above 17% as the risks increase the smaller the pulley. You will need to change the s/charger belt once a year or every 10,000 miles and it can get baggy.

If you want to keep your IC stock then don't go above 15% as I found the extra heat from the 17% ended up sapping my power which meant I had to get a bigger IC.

Insurance-wise your premium will go up if you inform your insurance company. However if you are with Adrian Flux they calculate the increased and relation to how many % power increase the modification gives you so it's relative.

Here is a link to my dyno chart so you can see the power curve.
