Default Seat trouble

Mini Cooper 2003. Can anyone tell me what has to be done with the passanger seat that won't stay upright,it will tilt forward and slide fordward easily when you move the lever, when it is put back it goes past where it should lock in the middle (upright) position and will not lock till its reclined, dealer says a new seat but mortgage says no, is there a fix for this.
Thanks in advance
JC

Sounds like the actual frame is damaged... You may be able to get it fixed but it won't be cheap... The seat will have to be taken apart and you'll probably need a new frame... There was an article on these sorts of problems in a past edition of Modern Mini Magazine... I've got some Cooper S fronts seats for sale if it's any help...

Bummer, doesn't sound good at all! I expect it won't be cheap to sort out through a main dealer as the mechanism sounds like it has gone. Your best bet would be trying to pick up a second hand set of seats. I hope you manage to get it sorted soon.

Default Seat

Thanks a lot guys for replying, I have since found out that's its an on going problem, I will be contacting Mini to see why there has not been a recall of such a dangerous defect,it will probably do no good but I have some success with Toyota and Ford about the duel mass flywheel failing and them trying to wash their hands of their problem and getting me to pay for it,Watchdog may help.
