Question Engine Mount Issues

I am a little concerned for my MINI! For a couple of months I have heard a knocking noise coming from the engine area when pulling away in low gears. I had put it down to the recent fitment of my GRS IC thinking perhaps it is rubbing on something (the air diffuser or something). I'd not flagged this upto the dealers as I didn't want to get billed for wasting their time.

Yesterday at a rolling road day someone commented on how far the engine was rocking back when going through the rev range on the dyno. Again I didn't think too much into it. I got some lowering springs fitted at ModnMini and when the car was taken out for a quick road test Neil noticed the same knocking noise and mentioned it. Got the car up on the ramps and there was apparently a small crack in the lower mount. There is also too much freeplay when revving the engine which is causing something to catch and make the knocking noise.

There are no visable leaks from the mount (they were replaced under warranty within the last year) but when revving the mount looks as if lifts up slightly.

Yesterday was my last day of MINI warranty! I ended up calling out MINI Emergency Services who took my car away on a tow truck, Being the weekend I am not going to know the fate of my MINI until next week. I am somewhat concerned this could be blamed on my modifications, can extra power cause something like this? I have fitted a Alta CAI, 17% Alta Pulley, GRS IC - will MINI use this as a scapegoat for not paying for the repair under warranty?

I am a bit worried this will happen again, I think I have read that PowerFlex bushes could help - does anyone have any experience of these?

I am just wanting to equip myself with as much info as possible as my MINI has been possibly sent to a dealers who have had no previous dealings with my car. My local dealers are reasonably okay with my mods and won't speak to me like I am a criminal!

Any advice would be welcomed!

I had excessive movement attributed to a leaking engine mount (left hand of engine as you look at it), after only 28k miles - unmodded!

This isn't an uncommon thing and I think they'd on only be trying to get out of doing the work if they did kick off about it not being standard.

Maybe when you had your engine mounts change under warranty, something was damaged or not done up properly...Something loose will cause stress on other parts...

Spend ages waiting for an update from MINI today, when they eventually called me back it turns out they cannot find anything wrong with the car and cannot replicated the knocking sound coming from the engine.

They are taking another look tomorrow, I'll be annoyed if I have to go and show them myself. I just want my car back, fixed!

Back up? Like asking my modding pimp (aka Sef) to go over there and show them what the problem is...

I'm off to Colchester soon to get a new engine mount, do you want me to mention your problem?
